Safe barkuterie boards for dogs

We all like to get a little fancy sometimes

Charcuterie boards aren’t exclusively for people — your dog can get in on the fun, too, thanks to “barkuterie” boards. With your vet’s approval, use veterinarian and pet health advocate Dr. Aliya McCullough's pup-safe shopping list so your dog can indulge in their own meat, cheese and veggie spread.

Cheese

Cheese typically has a lot of fat and salt, so make sure you choose the right variety for your best friend. Mozzarella, cottage cheese and soft plain goat cheese are great choices.

Vegetables

Greens mean go-time. Here’s an extensive list of some fruits and vegetables to include:

  • Carrots
  • Apple slices (no core)
  • Banana (no peel)
  • Strawberries
  • Watermelon
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Green beans
  • Peas

Meat

Small amounts of low salt, lean meats are best. Treat them to fully-cooked, boiled chicken breast, ground turkey, or lean ground beef. Be sure to keep them as bland as possible (trust us, it won’t be bland to our pets) and don’t add any extra seasoning.

How to serve your dog a charcuterie board

If your dogs aren’t typically food aggressive, it’s safe to put all of the food on one dog charcuterie board. But, if they don’t like to share, make individual boards for each of your pups. Keep in mind that any food outside of their usual diet should make up less than 10% of their daily calories.

Your dog’s charcuterie board may look so delicious that even the humans want a bite.
